The most common problems

Problem	What to check
I cannot find the Turnitin assignment	Check the correct online classroom, the section and the opening date – see Where to find the assignment. If the activity is not there, contact the instructor.
The file will not upload	Check the file format, the size, password protection and the internet connection. For a PDF, check that it contains real text and not just scanned images.
The wrong file was submitted	If resubmission is enabled, submit the corrected file. If the option is not available, notify the instructor immediately.
The similarity score is not shown	The report may still be generating, the instructor may have hidden it, or it may be set to be generated only at the due date.
The report will not open	Check pop-up blocking in your browser, refresh the page, or try another supported browser.
I do not know whether the submission went through	Check the status, the date and time of the submission and the Digital Receipt – see Checking your submission.
The due date has already passed	If late submission is not enabled, contact the instructor. The instructor sets the rules; Turnitin cannot change them.

Recommendations for a safe submission

• Do not submit the assignment right before the due date.
• Before uploading, check the file name and the content of the document.
• After submitting, save the Digital Receipt and the Submission ID.
• If the Similarity Report is available, review the sources and the matches, not just the percentage.
• Before resubmitting, save a copy of the previous version on your computer.
• If the system is not working, document the problem with a screenshot as soon as possible and notify the instructor or support.

Glossary of terms

Term	Meaning
Turnitin assignment	The activity, or space, in Moodle where you submit an assignment.
Submission	The work you submitted to the Turnitin assignment.
Submission ID	The unique identification number of a submission.
Digital Receipt	Confirmation that the submission was completed successfully.
Similarity Report	A report that shows the matches between the submitted text and sources.
Similarity Score	The share of the text that matches sources in Turnitin.
Resubmit	A new submission that replaces the previous one.
Due date	The time by which submission is possible.
Feedback release date	The date from which grades and feedback are visible to students.
Feedback Studio	The Turnitin viewer for the Similarity Report, the grade and the comments.
